Instinctively we all know a home will grow in value over the long-term... that's what makes a home such a great investment.  That said, homes values really increase at roughly the pace of inflation.  This is often disguised by housing's boom and bust cycles.

Key Points

  • Home values appreciate long-term
  • Research shows home values are relatively stable once adjusted for inflation
  • Be cautious over estimating the impact of boom and bust cycles
  • Don't refinance to spend short term gains like a windfall
